Radiation

Waaay back when, before I was born, my folks had a hippie-dippie shop in the town I grew up in called Radiation. They sold bell-bottoms, waterbeds, and other counter-culture goods. The basement of the house I grew up in was the perfect suburban basement, with old couches, a TV, a pool table, and, taking up one whole wall, the wooden, hand-painted sign from that very shop. This scarf reminds me of the Radiation sign – 70s letters, curving around a sun, with thick beams radiating from the center. It makes me think of home, and youth, and good times in that basement underneath that sign. I hope you’ll get some of those good vibes while making and wearing this oversized scarf.

Yarn yardages for scarves as shown:
Fingering- or sport-weight version (green & grey version): approximately 705 yds/645 m sport- weight yarn total; 375 yds/343 m cA and 330/302 m yards cB. Green & Grey version shown in Schoppel Starke 6, #2137 (cA) and Quince & Co. Chickadee, Frost (cB).
Worsted-weight version (not shown): approximately 750yds/686 m worsted-weight yarn total; 400 yds/366 m cA and 350yds/320 m cB.
Aran-weight version (not shown): approximately 792 yds/724 m aran-weight yarn total; 420 yds/384 m cA and 372/340 m yards cB.

Fingering- or Sport-weight version (not shown): approximately 352 yds/322 m sport-weight yarn total; 187 yds/171 m cA and 165 yds/151 m cB.
Worsted-weight version: 375 yds/343 m worsted- weight yarn total; 199 yds/182 m cA and 176 yds/ 161 m cB.
Aran-weight version (purple and gold version): 396 yds/362 m aran-weight yarn total; 210 yds/192 m cA and 186 yds/170 m cB. Knitted Wit Targhee Aran, Dryad (cA) and Yellow Brick Road (cB).
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Sizes shown are based on how many repeats we have worked for each shawl, with the goal of utilizing a certain yardage for each.
Big scarf version: 72"/183 cm long from tip to tip along top edge, 22"/56 cm wide at narrowest edge of triangle.
Smaller scarf version: 61"/153 cm long from tip to tip along longest edge; 20"/51 cm wide at narrowest edge.
Both versions are measured after blocking.
