Back to School Confidence & Emotional Wellbeing Toolkit | Ages 9–12
The pack includes:
My Invisible Backpack
A strengths-based reflection activity which encourages children to recognise the qualities, experiences and achievements they already carry with them. Children consider what they are good at, something difficult they have managed, something they are proud of, a positive quality others see in them and something they can do now that they could not do a year ago.
Think • Watch • Discuss
Eight discussion prompts designed to be used alongside a film clip, animation, story or shared text. The questions encourage children to look beyond what a character says and explore emotions, thoughts, body language, confidence, empathy and possible coping strategies.
Catch It, Check It, Change It!
A simple three-step framework for helping children recognise an unhelpful thought, question whether it is completely accurate and replace it with something more realistic and supportive. Importantly, the focus is not on pretending everything is easy, but on developing more balanced and helpful self-talk.
Together, the activities can support emotional literacy, confidence, resilience, empathy, reflection and a growth mindset.
They are particularly useful at the beginning of a new school year, during transition periods or whenever children are facing something new or challenging.
