Practice Questions for the BOC Certification Exam for the Athletic Trainer — Ebook with Full Explanations (EPUB + PDF)
300 original practice questions, every one written from the published content outline, with an explanation for every wrong answer as well as for the right one.
This is a question bank, not a textbook. It is built for the stage of study where the reading is done and what is left is finding out which answers are wrong, and why.
How the book is organised
- A 20-question diagnostic that returns a study order rather than a score, weighted by the content outline, so a gap in the 25.6 percent Assessment, Evaluation and Diagnosis domain outranks a gap in the 8 percent Healthcare Administration and Professional Responsibility domain.
- One chapter per content-outline domain: Risk Reduction, Wellness and Health Literacy; Assessment, Evaluation and Diagnosis; Critical Incident Management; Therapeutic Intervention; Healthcare Administration and Professional Responsibility. The diagnostic and both practice exams are drawn at the published weights.
- Questions in sets of ten, with the answers starting on a later page, so reading ahead by accident is not possible.
- Two timed practice exams of 121 questions each, mixed in the outline's proportions and paced to the real exam's 240 minutes for 175 questions.
- A 40-item second-best-answer drill, a misconception index, a task-statement cross-reference and a glossary.
What is different about the explanations
Most prep books explain the correct answer and leave the other three alone. Every explanation here does four things: why the key is right; the misconception that makes each wrong option tempting; the detail in the question that rules that option out, and the situation in which it would have been right; and the one line that separates the key from the next-best option. On a scenario exam the failure mode is rarely ignorance. It is choosing the second-best answer.
Written to the published content outline
Every question traces to a task statement in the content outline from the Practice Analysis, 8th Edition. The explanations draw on public sources: the practice analysis and the standards of professional practice, the position statements of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, open nursing textbooks, and federal guidance on lightning, concussion and physical activity. No question is taken from, or modelled on, any real exam question. The diagnostic, the two practice exams and the drill draw on the same questions, so 300 is the number of distinct questions in the book rather than a count of repeats.
Which exam this book is for
It is written to the content outline in effect since the March 2023 exam. The real exam also uses multi-select, drag-and-drop, hot-spot and focused-testlet items; this book practises the same content as single-answer questions, so expect those formats on screen on exam day. Athletic training practice acts differ from state to state; the book keys the national standard.
No book can promise a result. This one shows which answers are wrong, and what the wrong answer was built out of, before the exam asks.
This book is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer.
