PUFF Scarf

Puff is a unique knitted puffer scarf! It’s the coziest scarf ever! The pattern is fun and full of interesting knitting techniques, and features step-by-step photographic instructions!

Illimani LLAMA I, (worsted-weight, 200 metres / 220 yards per 100g, 100% baby llama)

2 - colour version: Bone B and Beige BC

Yarn Amounts

Single colour version: 2 skeins or 375 metres / 410 yards

2 - colour version: 1 skein of each colour or 190 metres / 210 yards of each colour

NEEDLES

• 4 mm / US 6, 60 cm / 24 inch circular needles (or longer), 2 pairs (main needles)

• 5 mm / US 8 DPNs (Double Pointed Needles), set of 2, 15.5 cm / 6 inches long (or longer)

Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

GAUGE (not blocked)

20 stitches x 28 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches on 4 mm / US 6 needles in Stockinette stitch

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

NOTIONS

• Approximately 40g of Poly-fil pillow stuffing

• 1 stitch marker

• 4 stitch holders

• Yarn needle

NOTES

~ Please familiarize yourself with Knitting in the Round on Two Circular Needles before beginning.

~ The main part of the knitting uses two circular needles to work in the round. Choose two sets of long circulars that are visually different from each other in order to easily keep track of each set of needles as you knit. This technique involves knitting half of your stitches on one needle, then the other half of your stitches on the second needle.

~ The Magic Loop technique for knitting in the round can be used instead of the two circular needles, however, the two circular needle method maintains the division of stitches and potentially keeps the work flatter. If using the Magic Loop technique be advised that the pattern is not written to describe this method. Use at your own discretion.

~ Circular needles can be used in place of the larger DPNs for cast on and pocket closing sections, however, you may find that a rigid needle is easier to handle. Also note that the DPNs shown in the photo tutorial are shorter than I would recommend! Use needles that are 6 inches or longer to avoid having your stitches fall off the tips.

~ Important: It is necessary to use the larger DPNS rather than the main needle for the cast on and pocket closing section, otherwise the subsequent round will be too tight.

~ Meterage and Yardage amounts are estimated based on original sample. However, I have added approximately 15% extra to amounts for safety.

~ This pattern has only been tested (by me) using polyester poly-fil. You could use non-synthetic stuffing such as wool batting, which would make the scarf really warm and biodegradable. However, I myself have not tested how the scarf holds up after washing using anything other than polyester filling.
