4,819 inhabitants were recorded as resident in the Monasterevin District Electoral Division on Irish Census night March 31st 1901.

The population fell 12% from 6,228 in 1881 to 5,492 in 1891 and then again by 12% to 4,819 in 1901. The greatest decline over the 20 year period was 34% in Quinsborough, 26% in Harristown, 25% in Monasterevin and 24% in Lackagh. Nurney's population only decreased by 10% in the same 20 year period.
