Pony
Part 1 of my fine art black and white collection.
The Longmynd ponies are a hardy and iconic presence on the Shropshire Hills, embodying the wild beauty of the Long Mynd plateau. These semi-wild ponies, descendants of native hill breeds, have roamed the moorlands for generations, helping to naturally manage the landscape through their grazing.
Their presence maintains the balance of the heathland ecosystem, preventing scrub overgrowth and allowing rare plants and wildlife to thrive. With their thick coats, sturdy build, and calm temperament, the ponies are perfectly adapted to the harsh winds and shifting seasons of the upland. Spotting them grazing against the backdrop of sweeping valleys and distant ridges is one of the most timeless and evocative sights the Long Mynd has to offer.
