A word from the author

Marcelo Bielsa has repeatedly revealed that everything he does is based on the ideas of others. I understand this confession in two ways. I also think that both options may be correct. I consider this Argentinian coach as a stubborn maniac person who analyzes selected teams. He tries to find specific rules and behaviors in their game. I imagine how he evaluates and modifies them, and then – already in the field – implements inside his team’s way of playing.

However, I also consider this process in slightly different way. By creating more and more current patterns of behavior for players, Bielsa sees other teams similar to the one he is actually coaching. Perhaps, for this reason, he says: Nothing I’ve done is my creation. Everything is copied.

Football game contains an extensive set of behaviors that can be categorized. This set may also be reduced to the specific one if the coach decides to play in the unique manner. The process of extracting makes the Game Idea creation easier. Therefore, interpreting the above sentence, I imagine Bielsa smiling while performing the game analysis process. He comes to the conclusion that the behavior, which, after all, was supposed to be the author, someone else has long ago found and managed to implement in another part of the world.

Considering this probability before writing this book, I decided to do it using the first-person narrative. I present my Idea of the game. It is worth to say that I also experience an unusual kind of surprise when I notice that many of my ideas are already being implemented. That is why I decided at some point to use the words of various football geniuses, who in their fields are considered as opinion-forming people.

I believe that my book will inspire you – no matter how. I would also like to motivate to create a plan coaches who have not yet specified how they want to play. Let people reflect who want to play in a different way than me. For environments and organizations considering the possibility of standardizing the Game Idea within many of their entity teams, let it be an inspiration.

Whatever is your motivation for reading this book, remember: It won’t let you win a match! Only footballers can do this. However, it may happen that even they will not ensure the victory unless the circumstances are right.

I wish you a great reading!
