Reignbeaux

A rainbow sweater, but add a little bit of spice!

Start by knitting a rainbow that will make up the side of your sweater, then knit the rest of the sweater around it. It’s like intarsia without any of those pesky bobbins hanging around!

This is a custom fit sweater pattern made with measurements and math - the pattern includes both the directions to do the calculations manually and a spreadsheet with formulas to do the math for you. Just measure your body or a sweater that fits you well and use those values to create a sweater tailored just for you!

The pattern does not give specific numbers of stitches for each size, these are calculated based on your measurements. The pattern will walk you through each step of construction and pattern support is available, but please keep this in mind before purchasing as I will not accept refund requests if you were expecting a traditional pattern with prescriptive stitch counts.

Recommended Yarn and Gauge
Teal Torch Knits DK, 75/25 SW Merino Wool & Nylon, 246 yards per 100g skein, available at tealtorchknits.com.
5 sts and 8 rows per inch in stockinette stitch, washed and blocked.

Yarn substitution tips
Choose smooth yarns suitable for sweater construction – wool, wool/acrylic or wool/nylon blends, cotton/acrylic blends are best for ensuring that your sweater retains its shape during wearing and washing.

Any combination of yarn that achieves the correct gauge will work, so experiment with fingering or laceweight strands held together and marling yarns, especially in the contrast color sections. Generally, 2 strands of fingering weight or 3 to 4 strands of laceweight held together will match the gauge of DK yarn.

The side rainbow and stripes of one sleeve are knit in contrast colors, choose a minimum of 2 colors for these sections. The samples shown use 3 to 12 colors, you are only limited by the number of ends you want to weave in at the end! You will need around 100g of contrast colors to knit the rainbow panel and one sleeve, keep in mind that you’ll use more of the colors you’ll select for the top stripes of your rainbow than the bottom stripes. Miniskein sets, advent calendar yarn, and scrap yarn are all great choices for your contrast colors!
