Every adult asks the same question a dozen times a day: do I step in right now or let it go? You usually have about two seconds to decide. This grid gives you a better answer than your mood by checking what is actually at risk and whether your response is too little, right sized, or too much.

The What's at Risk Grid (landscape) has four rows from "nothing but my patience" to "somebody's safety." Each row shows what underreacting, right sized, and overreacting look like. There is a two question gut check, plus an overreact check and an underreact check. A practice page holds 8 short school and home scenarios with an answer key that shows the right sized move and the likely miss for each. Four badge cards to laminate cover the gut check, the four steps, find the row, and a fill in "who I call" card.

I tape this inside a clipboard or behind a badge. The safety row is the only row where waiting is the miss, and the grid says so plainly. Every other row gives you time, and most of us forget that in the moment. Run the practice page at a team meeting in ten minutes and you will hear right away where your staff tends to slip.

For teachers, paras, administrators, and families. Any grade level.
