300 original practice questions, every one written from the published content outline, with an explanation for every wrong answer as well as for the right one.

This is a question bank, not a textbook. It is built for the stage of study where the reading is done and what is left is finding out which answers are wrong, and why.

How the book is organised

  • A diagnostic that returns a study order rather than a score, weighted by the content outline, so a gap in the 17 percent Client Assessment, Reassessment and Treatment Planning domain outranks a gap in the 11 percent Anatomy and Physiology domain.
  • One chapter per content-outline domain: Anatomy and Physiology; Kinesiology; Pathology, Contraindications, Areas of Caution and Special Populations; Benefits and Effects of Soft Tissue Manipulation; Client Assessment, Reassessment and Treatment Planning; Ethics, Boundaries, Laws and Regulations; Guidelines for Professional Practice. The diagnostic and both practice exams are drawn at the published weights.
  • Questions in sets of ten, with the answers starting on a later page, so reading ahead by accident is not possible.
  • Two timed practice exams of 100 questions each, mixed in the outline's proportions and paced to the real exam's 110 minutes for 100 questions.
  • A second-best-answer drill, a misconception index, a content-outline cross-reference and a glossary.

What is different about the explanations

Most prep books explain the correct answer and leave the other three alone. Every explanation here does four things: why the key is right, traced to the part of the outline it came from; why each wrong option was tempting, naming the misconception behind it; the detail in the question that rules that option out; and the one line that separates the key from the next-best option. On a scenario question the failure mode is rarely ignorance. It is choosing the second-best answer: the session that goes ahead when it should be adapted, or the referral that comes too late.

Written to the published content outline

Every question traces to a section of the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination content outline. The explanations draw on public sources: the Entry-Level Analysis Project report, the NCBTMB code of ethics and standards of practice, the model practice act, CDC infection-control guidance, the federal bloodborne pathogens standard, NCCIH, and open anatomy, nursing and pharmacology textbooks. No question is taken from, or modelled on, any real exam question. The diagnostic, the two practice exams and the drill draw on the same questions, so 300 is the number of distinct questions in the book rather than a count of repeats.

Which exam this book is for

It is written for the national licensing exam's current content outline, in effect from July 2025: 100 multiple-choice questions in 110 minutes, across seven domains. It does not cover any state's own jurisprudence exam or law. Scope of practice, draping rules and continuing education differ from state to state, so the questions test the entry-level standard the states share; check your own state board for the rest.

No book can promise a result. This one shows which answers are wrong, and what the wrong answer was built out of, before the exam asks.

This book is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards.
