Blackcomb Shawl

Like the coordinating Whistler Shawl, the Blackcomb Shawl features a four-row repeat that’s simple to remember, but contains enough variation to keep things interesting. It uses only basic stitches, making it accessible even to a newer crocheter, and it can easily be adjusted to size for a fun, quick, and customizable project!

Gauge

8 rows = 4”/10cm measured down the spine. Gauge swatch is worked flat and measurements are taken after blocking. Do not stretch the fabric when checking gauge. Gauge may vary based on how you block. Gauge is not essential as a shawl that is slightly larger or smaller will still fit nicely, and the shawl can also be easily adjusted in size. Differences in gauge will change the finished size and will also impact the yardage required.

Yarn, Yardage, and Colors

The pattern features a four-row repeat and a one-row edging, making it easy to adjust. One skein is enough for a shawlette, but you can easily add skeins to make it larger.

The customizability makes it perfect for yarns with long color changes, as you can easily adjust the shawl to use up every scrap of yarn. The pattern shines in a tonal or semi-solid, but the lace will be obscured in a variegated yarn.

The sample is shown in a fingering weight, but the shawl works well in anything from a laceweight to a worsted.

Overview of the Finished Object

The shawl is worked in one piece from the top down. It is a half hexagon, with a center section that is smaller than the two wings. It humps slightly towards the top. It features all over lace, and two spines of stacked shells.
