Beyond The Rainbow Knitting Pattern Collection

Beyond The Rainbow is a little book of eight shawl designs which use either two contrasting colours or our colour wheel sets  and a semi-solid colour. Each design can also be worked in one or two semi solid colours, so it gives lots of options. These patterns are also available as a print collection.

The patterns are

Simple Steps Shawl
This shawl came about as a way to showcase a subtle slip stitch pattern and two contrasting colours. This is a simple pattern which uses garter stitch and slipped stitches. Only one colour is worked in any row, so it’s an easy way to play with colour. The large version of this shawl uses almost all of the yarn, so if your tension is even slightly off we’d recommend making the smaller version, which is a little shorter.

Finished Measurements Size S (L) Length: 210cm (240cm)/ 82.5in (94.5in) Width: 28cm/11in on both sizes

The Knitting Goddess BFL, silk and alpaca(4-ply weight; 60% Bluefaced Leicester, 20% mulberry silk, 20% baby alpaca); 400m/437yds per 100g skein): 2 x 100g skeins in strongly contrasting semi-solid shades, or one semi-solid and one multi-coloured yarn. Shawl shown is worked in Lime  and Berry

Simple Steps Shawl Rainbow Version

This rainbow version came about because it reminded me of stained glass.

Square Off Shawl
This shawl came about as a way to play with the impact that the spacing of stripes has on the look of a design. This is a simple pattern which uses garter stitch and basic shaping to form an elongated diamond. Only one colour is worked in any row so it’s an easy way to play with colour. The geometric lines of this shawl suggested black and white to me, but any strongly contrasting colours would work well.

Get To The Point Shawl
This design came about after I’d been admiring the mitred squares on a cushion that a friend was knitting. The shawl starts with a centre square. Stitches are picked up along two edges of this and side one is worked. Stitches are then picked up along the remaining edges of the square and the colours are reversed to the second side.

Get To The Point Rainbow Shawl

Having made a two-colour version of this shawl I realised there was just enough yarn in a set of mini-skeins for a multi-coloured version.

The shawl starts with a centre square which uses all 12 colours. Each side transitions through six of the 12 colours, giving a beautiful colour shift across the length of the shawl.
