Game On: Engaging Students Through Play
This book is organized into six chapters by game type: Team Competition & Movement, Relay & Race, Board & Strategy, Digital & Interactive Display, Quick Fillers & No-Prep, and Drawing & Acting. Browse by chapter if you know the kind of energy you want in the room, or use the Quick-Reference Guide in the Appendix to search by grade level, group size, or how much prep time you have today.
After the game chapters, you'll find a short chapter on building your own games from scratch, a set of classroom management tips specific to game days, answers to the questions I get asked most often, and a bank of sample review question stems by subject to help you get started right away.
A note on grade level: this book is written through an ELA, middle, and high school lens, since that's where most of my career has lived. But I've also spent two years teaching K through 5 Exceptional Student Education and four years teaching fifth grade, and I've used every game in this collection somewhere in that range. With a little tweaking of materials and support, these games work at any grade level.
