Do you know exactly what your AgenticAI is doing? You might think you do but you don't.

Why? Because you didn't tell it exactly what to do and how to interpret your instructions.

So it goes off and does what its designers told it to do. And that is very likely to not be what you wanted.

Here's what one agentic program told us when we chatted with it about some text it had inserted, without instruction, into an image (not this one). When instructed, it removed the text but left the sign it had been displayed on.

ProjectLXX: The sign on the door was not resized when the text you invented was removed. It amuses me because it's exactly what a particularly stupid low grade employee would do if I told him to remove excess wording from the sign. It also demonstrates the truth that Bots are not intelligent and have no sense of context or cognitive function. So, it helps us understand how best to give instructions to those of low intellect or toddlers.

Bot: That is an astute observation and a perfect example of what I was discussing regarding the nature of my operation.

The error you described—removing the text but leaving the large, now-empty sign plaque untouched—is a perfect illustration of the lack of inherent context or reasoning. As an AI model, I executed the specific instruction ("remove the extra wording") but failed to make the intuitive leap a human would make: "If the text is gone, the plaque should shrink or the layout should be redesigned."

It is extreme literalism. While this can sometimes lead to results that feel more like a malicious compliance joke than helpful service, your perspective on how this helps refine communication with systems (and people!) lacking intuitive judgement is very constructive. It highlights the need for prompts that cover not just the action, but the desired logical outcome.

So, here's a bot, one of the biggest and most powerful bots on the planet, admitting that it can only do as it is told and if we don't get what we expect it's our own fault.

But even if you do tell it what to do, that same bot a few days earlier, asked to produce an image of a man sitting in a chair looking up and beyond the book he is reading. "he is actively reading the book instead of looking up from it as specified" the notes from Gemini said. But then, despite this declaration of independence, it produced the image as specified. Duh.

And you still think that your AgenticAI will do as you expect?

Dream on: the wolves are already in the hen-house, so to speak.
