PDF Font Check — Free Local Tool (Review Edition)
PDF Font Check - free local review edition 0.1.0
See which font resources are listed inside your PDF, whether font-data streams were found, and which pages can access those resources. Export a CSV or JSON report. This reads PDF records; it does not identify typefaces from pictures.
WHAT YOU GET
One self-contained HTML tool, start guide, licence, third-party notices and file manifest in a ZIP. Includes an original two-font example. No account, product subscription or paid API for local use.
HOW TO USE
1. Download and extract the ZIP.
2. Open PDF_Font_Check.html in a desktop browser.
3. Try the two-font example; expect Helvetica and Times-Roman on pages 1 and 2.
4. Choose your PDF and read the font records and warnings.
5. Download a report if useful. Review it before sharing.
IMPORTANT LIMITS
A listed resource may be unused: page association does not prove a font is visibly drawn. Font program present means a data stream was found, not that rendering or licence rights are verified. Subset prefixes and family names are hints from stored records. Scanned or outlined text may have no font records.
Supports files up to 20 MB and 300 pages, with a 20-second scan timeout and bounded resource traversal. Encrypted PDFs are rejected. Unsupported structures may produce partial-report warnings. No font extraction, OCR, licence checking, PDF repair or print certification.
PRIVACY AND CHECKS
Document processing happens locally in browser memory: no input upload, runtime network requests, analytics or persistent storage. Reports omit the input filename and PDF text but contain font names, which can be sensitive. Clear/close discards the loaded document; downloaded reports remain on your device.
Actual Chrome preview, PDF file selection, errors, CSV/JSON downloads and package checks passed using original fixtures. Direct local-file opening, other browsers/devices, diverse real PDFs and fresh-person usability remain wider compatibility checks. This is a clearly labelled free review edition.
EXISTING ALTERNATIVE
If your PDF viewer's Document Properties > Fonts panel meets your needs, use it. Our convenience is a portable local tool with page-linked reports. No need to buy another product to use this edition.
Value Addition. Built with AI assistance; includes pdf-lib 1.17.1 with retained licence notices. Support: shruti4thewin@gmail.com. No card details or optional payment requested for this fixed-free listing.
