Wucht und Dramatik dieses Werks bekommt durch den einzigartigen Ensembleklang der 5 Kontrabässe noch einmal mehr Fülle, und auch die Kantilene des Mittelteils, auf der zumeist der 1. Kontrabass in höchsten Lagen schwelgen kann, wird von Flageolett-Tönen der anderen Bässe in neue Sphären gehoben.

The unique ensemble sound of the 5 double basses gives this work even more power and drama, and the cantilena of the middle section, in which the 1st double bass can usually revel in the highest registers, is lifted into new spheres by the harmonics of the other basses.
