The Colorwork Pumpkin pattern is perfect for fall, whether you want to decorate for Halloween, Thanksgiving, or all season long. Make several in different colors and yarn weights, and choose between three different chart designs.
The sample spider pumpkin shown has been modified somewhat from the pattern by using stripes on the base and duplicate stitching on the hourglass shape on the spider's abdomen.
Skills Needed: Working with two colors, working in the round, reading colorwork charts, trapping floats, kfb increase, k2tog and ssk decreases, picking up stitches, i-cord.
Diameter: Approximately 5 in [12.7 cm].
Height: Approximately 5 in [12.7 cm].
Yarn: 2 skeins Fingering Weight yarn, approximately 200 yds each – 1 skein each of two colors. Sample in Knit Picks Stroll in Black (Fingering/4 ply; 75% Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Nylon; 231 yards; 50 g) and Shibui Staccato in Pollen (Fingering/4 ply; 70% Merino, 30% Silk; 191 yards; 50 g).
Needles: US size 1 (2.25 mm) double pointed needles and 12 in. circular needles.
Gauge: 38 sts and 40 rnds = 4" [10 cm] in charted pattern stitch. This pattern is worked at a tighter gauge than normal so that the fiberfill does not show through fabric.
Other Materials: Stitch markers if desired, tapestry needle, tape measure, 1 small bag polyester fiberfill.
Tech edited and test knitted.
Please note: This is an updated version of the pattern as of 10/12/20. The charts have been updated for improved shaping.
