This is a large shawl inspired some of the most beautiful autumnal colours you see around this time (October) in nature and I love how these colours work together. Paired with a strand of lace weight Mohair Silk yarn it really tones down the brightness of the colours and brings the whole piece together.
I’m a lover of oversized “Shlanket” shawls in the autumn/winter months and this is definitely one of the cosiest ones I’ve designed! The mohair makes it super warm while still being fairly light and airy.
Please note the total yardage requirement in the pattern listing accounts for the amount of Lace weight and Fingering together, however; you only need one 100gm skein in three colours for the Fingering weight and 100gm of Lace Weight for this shawl - The sample shawl used the following skeins
• Notions – You will need 4 stitch markers.
• Gauge – The gauge I got on the samples was approx. 16sts / 4 inches with your larger needles AFTER BLOCKING, measured over stockinette stitch, and 16sts / 4 inches with your smaller needles in the 2 Colour Faux Brioche stitch also measured AFTER BLOCKING. Please note that gauge is not super important as long as you like the look of the fabric you are getting, however, significant differences could impact the overall width and length of your finished object, as well as the amount of yarn you may need.
• NOTE: if you know you are a loose knitter I would highly recommend going down a needle size in order to avoid risking running out of yarn.
Please note your final finished size will vary depending on gauge, and how extensively the finished item is blocked.
Finally please note this shawl uses a technique (I call it Faux Brioche) to achieve a brioche effect without having to work an actual Brioche stitch so if Brioche knitting is something that intimidates you then this will be a much simpler version.
