The punishment of the grave is a reality that is established by many proofs in our religion. Nevertheless, there have been sects and groups in the Islamic History, as well as today, that either outright deny or twist and turn the proofs to make the religion fit their own preconceived ideas. They also set up rules and principles to deny such reports regarding the unseen, like not accepting Āḥād [solitary] narrations.

Ḥāfiẓ Ghulām Muṣṭafā Ẓahīr Amanpūrī [ḥafiẓahullāh] wrote his book 'Adhābe Qabr (عذاب قبر) in a way, that the proofs within it are very difficult to deny anyone, even if the standards of these misguided groups are applied: He first cites the Qur'ānic proofs, i.e. the verses that point towards the punishment of the grave, and authentic reports that speak about the understanding of our Salaf regarding the mentioned verses. Then he brings Mutawātir Aḥadīth regarding the punishment of the grave. With this, he strives to establish the proof against those who deny the reality of what will happen in the grave after one dies.
