Seven Musical Portraits for Two Violas was commissioned by violist Leslie Perna. Inspired by the 44 Duos for Two Violins by Bela Bartok, my viola duos each explore a different moods, characters, colors and playing techniques possible on the viola. Each portrait has a descriptive title that range from humorous to a more serious mood. Written with the thought of different levels of proficiency in mind they can be performed in their entirety or broken into smaller subsets.
