Originally formed in 1939, the 2. Panzerdivision „Das Reich“ participated in nearly every major European campaign—France 1940, Operation Barbarossa, the Kharkov counteroffensive, and the Normandy battles in 1944—before retreating into Germany and surrendering in Austria in 1945. This set represents their typical combat appearance from mid- to late-war, featuring the feldgrau M40/M43 Feldbluse, Feldhosen, and either Marschstiefel or Schnürschuhe mit Gamaschen. Troops were frequently issued Tarnjacken or Tarnanzüge in Erbsenmuster or Platanenmuster, depending on the supply point and period. Headgear included the M43 Feldmütze or M40/M42 Stahlhelm, often with camouflage covers or netting. Division-specific collar tabs, shoulder straps, and the „Das Reich“ Ärmelstreifen (cuff title) completed the look. The division was known for its operational mobility and was often shifted to key points along the front, making this loadout one of the most recognizable in late-war German field formations.
