Greeting my ECE Leaders
I appreciate that you are taking this opportunity to consider your time. The systems presented in this planner are congruent
with established early learning program tasks that manage time to increase productivity. The plan is to reveal the
extensiveness of daily tasks for early childhood education directors and to take your minds off the matrix of daily tasks.
Allow yourself to Focus on the work of the compass for at least a month to produce change in your daily practices. The ECE
Director’s Compass as an empty system. This will allow you to think for yourself, about how to value your time. Listen to
me; once the day is gone, you cannot get that time back. Please have fun, put your creative touches in the planner; be
innovative, and remember, you are doing the work on yourself for yourself.
There are a multitude of reasons for you to learn how to organize your time at work. The main drivers that have influenced
me in putting The ECE Director’s Compass into action are our new directors in the field. Many leaders are searching for
innovative strategies for managing time within the boundaries of an eight-hour workday. It has been a joy to see ECE
Directors use the approaches to support their professional and personal development. Controlling time has added depth
of conceptual knowledge, and organizational systems to the program. The systems of time management for personal
development, staff development, financial management, human resource management systems, community outreach,
advocacy, etc. adopted in the compass will provide a positive, practical, and collaborative way to support program
management and leadership styles. I desire that this ECE Director’s Compass will be a resource that will guide you step by
step to a successful day in the life of a Leader.
The ECE Compass will be your partner on paper during this process of taking back your time; it will be like watering the
acorn in your daily practice. Each month includes one of the nine developmental areas outlined in The Georgia Early Care
and Education Professional Development Competencies for Program Administrators (ADM) 2007 and Georgia’s Workforce
Knowledge and Competencies (WKCs) 2017. The competencies outlined will be relevant for you to explore new program
systems for time management.
This will not be easy; discipline, hard work, and determination will be required by you to move forward. The tasks in the
planner cannot be delegated, neglected, or compromised. Trust me, I have looked for the shortcuts and loopholes myself.
Developing new habits is the work. What you do consistently will determine your success. Vince Lombardi said, “The quality
of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”
Helping construct solutions to time management; and keeping ECE program administration from spending the day from
open to close at the center is my goal. I hope this planner will serve as an organizational template to store your new
ideas, and program strategies, capture experiences, and promote change to grow your organization. You are not alone.
The social media components of the ECE Director’s Compass will keep us connected.
I look forward to thinking, dreaming, learning, and progressing together to manage while doing the wonderful work of
developing children and families.
You can achieve any goal you want within the compass of your time.
I love you so you can lead with Love.
Ms. Regina
