As Maya delves into the mind of the scientific patriarch, she seeks to uncover his true philosophy. But in a world still grappling with prejudice from "human purists" and the complex morality of a "Second Wave" of children born into the alteration, Maya must confront the ultimate question: did Dr. Bäumler merely create a scientific procedure, or did he trigger the next step in human evolution?
