The crescent-shaped Scallops in a Wave echoes the tiny swooping shape of the scalloped border in its waving edge and in the overall shape of the shawl. This project is worked mostly in garter stitch and is ideal for highlighting variegated yarns.
Scallops in a Wave begins with a long cast-on for the bottom edge with its decorative scallops. Then short rows shape the waves along the edge. Next, longer short rows form the crescent body of the shawl.
The short rows used in the shawl do not require wraps or any special stitches because they are combined with decreases.
Please note, the number of stitches for the cast on at the beginning of the shawl is quite large. The number of stitches on the needle decreases as the scallops and waves are created.
Gauge is not critical for this pattern, but using a different yarn weight or needle size will affect the size of the finished shawl.
