Chapter 151: Taking Vantage

Erasmus Bootickler became well admired throughout the coven, with many admirers, him being a widower and a father, but none could or would win his heart like that of his daughter Elvira. She had him wrapped around her little finger, so the witty witches who longed to get on a more intimate level with Erasmus, knew, the best way would be to find favor with his daughter. Every move and decision he made was with Elvira in mind, for he lived solely for her and was grateful she now had exposure to so many matriarchal figures. Deep down inside he knew he could never love another like he loved his former wife, her mother; so, despite the variety of witches who boldly flirted with him, and some who downright threw themselves at him, he was greatly disinterested.

Young Elvira still drew the Imps to her with her courteous spirit. They trusted her devoutly, and if it was revealed to her that it was one of their imp brethren who was responsible for the death of the mother she would never meet, there was no telling what she would do. For she had many a power, -unlike any other witch at the coven. No different from Ashante who possessed much power all the same. The thing with children of every life form, is that they are far more potent a force than any. Take the baby snake for example, which is far more venomous, and deadly than their parent, for their own protection. And who doesn’t love a baby or a child, -for their sheer vulnerability and newness to the world and moreover, their profound, irresistible cuteness? So, it was that Elvira was loved profusely by the coven, for they hadn’t ever had so young a witch to grace them with their presence before. She was adamant about learning new spells and sorcery techniques and always mesmerized her mother witches with remarkable tricks and magic like they had never seen, so she too was a teacher to them.

No one who knew, told Elvira that her friend and protector imps were responsible for her mother’s death, and as karma would have it, maybe that was the price the imps owed to her, for her mother’s death, or perhaps her deceased mother arranged it from the spirit world. Nevertheless, the imps were loyal to her, and indeed anything she requested of them, they would do, no questions asked. She was their master, the true Imp Wrangler.

It just so happened one day, that Aurora took Elvira by the hand and led her to the deep forest where the two of them could be alone to talk.

“Elvira,” Aurora began, as they sat upon a fallen tree trunk next to one another with the sun beaming in upon their faces, through the shadowy trees, “I do have something to tell you and something to ask of you.”

“Is it a secret? Is that why you have brought me here, alone,” Elvira asked.

“It is indeed. Only the two of us can know.”

“What is it then? I promise not to tell anyone.” Elvira replied.
