The Miracle is to Walk on the Earth

The Miracle is to Walk on the Earth was written over a period of nine years as a series of reflections and testimonies linked to a journey of faith. Prompted by a vision while travelling through the Arabian Desert, the journey concludes on my last day in Japan.

Derived from the Chinese proverb, “The miracle is not to fly in the air, or to walk on water, but to walk on the earth”, I draw attention to the miracle of simply being alive and alert to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, and being able to enjoy the blessings of everyday moments, yet discovering that God is purposefully at work.

The 92 chapters include interactions with a terrorist, a spy, a prostitute, armed robbers, a dishonest policeman, captured drug smugglers, a president and a prime minister, but above all, with God. It narrates instances of my life as a student, soldier, diplomat, husband and father, and includes images of life in countries less travelled to – Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.

God is a reality in my life and I love to declare that He is in control, His decisions are always unerring, and His timing perfect. I believe God hears and answers our prayers, and knows and cares about every detail of our lives. Be encouraged to reflect on your own life and see God’s hand present and at work in situations of fortitude as well as misfortune.
