A reward only works if the kid wants it. You would be surprised how many behavior plans run on stickers for a student who does not care about stickers. Ask first, then watch what they actually pick.

What's included:

• A circle it survey for younger students

• An interest inventory for older students

• A parent survey

• A staff observation page

• A two choice tracker to test what the student really picks

How I'd use it:

Do the student survey, then send the parent version home and ask a staff member who knows the kid. Compare. The two choice tracker settles it. Redo it every couple of months because what kids want changes.

The younger survey uses circle it lists that work for kids who do not write much yet. The older version asks about time, privileges, people, and interests, not just snacks and prizes. The staff and parent versions let you compare what adults think the kid likes with what the kid says. The two choice tracker is the tiebreaker, because what a student picks over and over is what they will work for. Keep the completed surveys with the behavior plan so the next teacher or para does not have to start over.

Who it's for: Teachers, paras, families, and case managers. Grades PreK 12.
