REPENT AND CONFESS – We Have Sinned Against You by Bro H
Intro “O Yahweh, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and mercy with those who love You and keep Your commandments— we have sinned.” Verse 1 We have committed iniquity; we have done wickedly and rebelled. We have turned away from Your commandments and departed from Your judgments. We have not listened to Your servants, the prophets who spoke in Your Name. Righteousness belongs to You, O Yahweh, but open shame belongs to us. All this trouble has come upon us, yet we have not sought Your favor. We have not turned from our iniquities; we have not understood Your truth. Chorus Yahweh, we return to You; You have torn, and You will heal us. You have struck, and You will bind us up; revive us, and we will live before You. We confess our sin. We confess Your Name, O Lord. We confess that this chastening has come from Your own hand. Verse 2 We confess our own iniquity and the iniquity of our fathers. We have trespassed against You; we have walked contrary to You. And You have walked contrary to us; You have given us into the hand of our enemies. You wounded us with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one. It was not because Your arm was shortened; it was not because Your covenant had failed. For the multitude of our iniquities, because our sins increased, You did this to us. Chorus Yahweh, we return to You; You have torn, and You will heal us. You have struck, and You will bind us up; revive us, and we will live before You. We confess our sin. We confess Your Name, O Lord. We confess that this chastening has come from Your own hand. Verse 3 When Your people were defeated by the enemy because they had sinned against You, You commanded them to return, confess Your Name, and pray. You said, “If I shut the heavens so there is no rain, if I command the locust to consume the land, or send pestilence among My people— if My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves and pray, seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven. I will forgive their sin and I will heal their land.” We cannot claim the promise of healing while refusing the judgment from Your hand. Chorus Yahweh, we return to You; You have torn, and You will heal us. You have struck, and You will bind us up; revive us, and we will live before You. We confess our sin. We confess Your Name, O Lord. We confess that this chastening has come from Your own hand. Verse 4 When Nineveh heard the warning, the people believed the word of God. The king came down from his throne, laid aside his robe, and sat in ashes. They turned from their wicked ways and from the violence within their hands. You saw their works—that they had turned— and You relented from the judgment pronounced. When Josiah heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes before You. He restored Your house and restored Your law; he destroyed the altars erected to Baal. He tore down the houses of the sodomites; he defiled Topheth so it could not be used. He renewed the Passover before You— his changed deeds demonstrated his confession. Bridge We will not cover our sins, for whoever covers them will not prosper. We will confess and forsake them, for whoever does so will find mercy. Change our minds. Turn our course. Open our mouths. Restore us to Your covenant. Final Chorus Yahweh, we return to You; You have torn, and You will heal us. You have struck, and You will bind us up; revive us, and we will live before You. We confess our sin. We confess Your Name, O Lord. We confess that this chastening has come from Your own hand. Outro Remember Your covenant with Jacob, Your covenant with Isaac, and Your covenant with Abraham. Forgive the sin of Your people. Restore us. Uphold us. You will be our God— and we will be Your people.
