Being in a position of participating in Balinese ceremonies, culture and traditions, I am honoured to share what I have experienced with others who love Bali, culture and travel. I know how difficult it can be to understand these as yjey can be quite involved and they vary from region to region. Writing them into a fiction story makes it a fun and easy way to understand these.
When you marry into Balinese life, there is an extensive list of ceremonies that will become part of your world.
Here’s just a glimpse of what’s ahead… Want to know what they mean and how they are celebrated?
Mewidhi Widana – Conversion ceremony to formally embrace Balinese Hinduism.
Metatah / Mepandes – Tooth filing, a rite of passage before marriage.
Pawiwahan – The wedding ceremony itself.
Menyama Braya – Ceremony to be welcomed into the family and community.
Otonan – A balancing ceremony if you missed the ones from childhood.
Later, with family.
Magedong-gedongan – Blessing ceremony during pregnancy.
Nelubulanin – Baby’s 3-month ceremony.
Ngotonin – Baby’s first birthday (according to Balinese calendar).
Otonan (ongoing) – Regular life-balance ceremonies, repeated through life.
You’ll find it all inside my books.
