Marlo Louise Nugrahita

My Balinese husband and I live in Australia, with our family of six. Since I married into Balinese life I have been welcomed with open arms and encouraged to get involve and participate in the every day Balinese life. .

I converted to Hinduism 13 years ago and I have completed all of my ceremonies required to be accepted into the community, including the metatah (tooth filing ritual).

When I am in Bali, I am known by my Balinese name Ni Komang.

I continue to learn, participate, and honour the traditions that surround my family there.

I write a range of books which are set in Bali.

My fiction novels share love stories woven through real culture, explaining ceremonies, beliefs, and daily life in a way that feels natural and easy to understand.

I also create simple guides to help you better understand Bali life, so you can see beyond what’s on the surface when you visit.

Currently I am looking into printing options in Bali, so will be able to print on demand and deliver as required.

Due to Nyepi and Ramadan closures, my plan to have this organised earlier has been delayed.

Until then, an eBook is the only option if you are outside of Australia.

Once you understand and appreciate other people's cultural backgrounds, then you can also connect with them more.

BALINESE CULTURE

Balinese culture, a vibrant blend of spirituality and tradition, is a captivating tapestry of Hindu-Bali Dharma. Rooted in daily rituals and grand ceremonies, it showcases ornate temples, intricate artistry, and a deep communal bond. The Balinese, known for their warmth, express unity through collective rituals and captivating arts like dance and Gamelan music. This unique fusion of spirituality and artistry defines Balinese culture, creating an enchanting mosaic for all who explore this extraordinary island.

BALINESE RELIGION

Balinese religion, a harmonious blend of Hinduism, animism, and indigenous beliefs, shapes the island's spiritual landscape. Rooted in Hindu-Bali Dharma, it permeates daily life with intricate rituals, vibrant ceremonies, and devotion to deities. The Balinese revere their temples as sacred hubs, where art and spirituality converge. Balancing the cosmic forces, locals engage in offerings, dance, and traditional music, reflecting a profound connection between the material and spiritual realms. The result is a unique religious tapestry, where the sacred and the cultural weave together, creating a deeply enriching spiritual experience for both locals and visitors alike.

BALINESE LIFE

When I began asking questions about why certain ceremonies and traditions were taking place, I received confusing and difficult to understand explanations.

I began doing my own research and realised that other lovers of Bali also wanted to understand the culture. This began my journey into researching and writing easy to comprehend explanations of the Balinese culture, traditions and ceremonies.

REVIEWS

Claire D : As wonderful as the first book!

Bali has been my 2nd home since my daughter moved there nearly 2 decades ago. It is the people and the culture that I love, not the crowded tourist areas. I couldn't put this book down, just like the first book. The writer really draws you in, bringing the characters to life. It was quite an emotional experience for me. I highly recommend 'The Island Continues to Listen'.

Coby: Eye opener!

I live in Bali in Lipah. My husband is Indo, born in Bandung. 20 years ago hé became Hindu. Now not really practicing anymore. We try to follow this special way of life . Those books give me a better and totally different idea about the Balinese Hindu community! Thank you so much. I hope to meet you once!

Beth: A fabulous read.

The second book of "Whispers" explains the ramification of a love of two people from different countries. The story is breathtakingly beautiful - with the reality of the merger of two cultures- the problems that arose - and how these two people overcame them.

This book oozes with the love for Bali. It doesn't whisper that love - it shouts it from the pages.

Bali is my second home too.

Caz: Captivating yet again

Once you start you just cant stop reading! A descriptive, heart warming journey of 2 cultures becoming one. If you know, you know - the whispers of Bali are forever guiding you

Dawn: The Island That Whispers

Great story that also is a great introduction to Balinese Hindu life. Set in a part of Bali that is very familiar to me. Makes me feel like I am there with the characters. The explanations of ceremonies and festivals are very accurate and factual. A great read.

Good afternoon

Thoroughly enjoyed reading the island that whispers, as Bali is like a second home for me and was lovely to read about and have the culture explained.

Left me feeling as though I was with Hannah and Gede on their journey 🥰🥰

Cheers Maggie

I lost myself in the book, I felt like I was back in Bali...I could imagine the smells, the scenery and the people, this book took me to the place I adore. I especially loved how the author made a cross cultural link with the Australian / Indonesian connection. I loved the cultural aspect of the book, many things I wondered about in Bali, but never knew the answers until reading Jacinta's Destiny... thanks for writing such an awesome book Marlo Muller, I cant wait for the next book. Will Jacinta be in it? By the way.... I read very slowly... usually a couple of weeks to read a book... I loved this story sooooo much I read it in two days.

If your planning a holiday in Bali..... defiantly read this before you go!!!!

What an amazing book. I started this book basically because of the Author not the story - Once I began reading I was hooked. My respect and curiosity about Bali and it's traditions grew with each chapter. I am honoured to have had the opportunity to read "Jacinta's Destiny". I loved this e-book and found myself looking forward to bedtime so I was able to read it. Thank you so much for sharing what is a huge talent for writing. I am very much looking forward to your next book. To potential buyers of this book - do yourself a favour and purchase it - you too will be taken in by the story of Jacinta.

 Jacinta's Destiny

Reviewed in the United States on 14 October A brilliant story which made me laugh and cry. I thoroughly enjoyed escaping to Jacinta's world every night as I read it and it was definitely one of those books that you didn't want to end. This book is so well written it not only had me wanting to run off to Bali but I fell in love with all of the characters on introduction and would happily read another book based on any one of them. Bring on book #2!
