Meet Your Professor...

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Corey Campion is an historian of modern France and Germany with expertise in European history, transatlantic relations, and memory studies. He holds a PhD in History and a Master of Arts in German and European Studies from Georgetown University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Modern German and French Language and Literature from Washington State University. With more than 15 years of teaching experience in a variety of large university, small college, community college, and home school settings, Campion has developed and delivered courses on topics ranging from world, European, African, and environmental history to the histories of food, work and leisure, beekeeping, and public memory. In addition, he has helped numerous secondary educators to enrich their content knowledge through graduate coursework as well as focused subject-matter seminars funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Beyond the classroom, he has led tours of battlefields and historic sites in both Europe and the United States for students, tour guides, and retired life-long learners. He is currently co-authoring a book on local First World War memorial culture in the United States and Europe and has published a variety of articles on European history, apiculture, and pedagogy. In 2020, he produced an edited collection of essays on teaching in the small-college setting for Rutgers University Press. He is fluent in French, German, and Spanish, and travels often to Europe and throughout the United States for research and pleasure. Whether on the written page, in the classroom, or on the road, he is guided by the simple passion that he hopes to share with all his students: learning more about the world and its past to better understand its present and future.
