About Me
As a child I loved music, singing and dancing (I played Clarinet and Saxophone, was in the Wakefield Youth Choir and completed many dancing exams) however in my teens I believed I wasn’t good enough at any of it! After suffering depression I found music again through singing and in 2003 I set up Early Years music classes.
I came across an approach called Kodaly which I absolutely loved from the first minute I experience it.
I remember thinking ‘If I had been taught music this way I would never have quit’. I began to add this philosophy into my teaching and then saw the effect on the children. Their musical skills became better - listening, understanding of pulse and rhythm, their singing and ability to pitch - and yet they didn’t know because they were having so much fun!
I now mainly teach in nurseries, recorder and ukulele in schools; private vocal, recorder and ukulele tuition; consultancy work; write and publish music books and resources; run community music projects helping a range of people from birth to older age.
