Anti-Oppression Posters
I am a multidisciplinary maker with an extensive background in activism. The crux of the work I create is to envisage a world in which no one is oppressed. I first considered myself an activist at the age of 17, when I volunteered at a Queer library housed by the Gay and Lesbian Archives and was an active participant of my university’s LGBTQIA+ society, Activate.
My activism at the time consisted of participating in and helping plan protest actions, creating visuals that reflected anti-oppression values and being present to receive and serve tea to participants of GALA’s archival processes.
When I left university I turned to online advocacy as a continuation of my ethos as someone who believes strongly in the necessity of Social Justice. I imparted information about various kinds of oppression, from global and institutionalized systems of suppression to interpersonal acts of dominance and violence.
As an artist, the work I create is deeply informed by my belief that a liberated and safe world is not only possible but urgently needed. I often embed this belief in work that looks at intimacy and how certain people are often denied the safety and freedom to expansively explore and enjoy it.
I am in the process of collating all of the knowledge I have gained over the years, into informative artwork that directly addresses oppression, how it works and how it can be dismantled.
