8 Simple Grounding Techniques For Anxiety

Anxiety often feels like it has a mind of its own. It comes in many different forms attacking the mind, body and spirit. We so often hear of other people having panic attacks due to anxiety that we are beyond shock when it happens to us. nimh.gov states that anxiety disorders has many symptoms such as restlessness, fatigue, irritability and having sleep problems. adaa.org says some coping strategies include exercising daily, eating well-balanced meals, and to welcome humor, and acceptance. While I think that these are some great ways to deal with anxiety, what I’d like to point out to you is 8 simple grounding techniques, from Essentials To A Journey, to help you manage your anxiety no matter where you are.

1. Earthing

A very effective technique that has a calming effect. What this requires is you taking your shoes off and walking on the ground or grass to connect to the earth. There are many creative ways to go about earthing however, as long as you are connecting your feet to the earth this will suffice.

2. Sitting in Nature

Tune in to the earth. Find a park bench or a grassy area and sit. Take notice of what is around you such as the trees or birds that may be inhabiting the area. Breath in the fresh air.

3. Focus on The Breath

Take a few minutes, wherever you are, to connect with your breath. Be with every inhale and exhale, noticing your body’s reaction. Do your best to slow down your breathing.

4. Meditation and Burning Sage

Meditation can be done with or without the sage however, the sage has a calming effect and connects you to spirit. Sit in a quiet place for a few minutes and allow your mind to drift to that quiet place or void. Take notice of how relaxing the feeling is or any thoughts that may arise. Do your best to be non judgmental if you are having anxious thoughts. See your thoughts as if they are clouds floating by.

5. Listen to Meditative Music, Sounds

This will have a calming effect over your mind and body. Play music that is calming that you can connect to. Allow yourself to zone out with the sound.

6. Sit With Crystals

If you have some crystals that you enjoy find one and connect to the energy of it. This will take some quiet time and a bit of your imagination. Feel into the energy space of the crystal, try not to think about wether you are doing this correctly and just go with the flow of it. Trust the vibe.

7. Connect With Water

Water has a natural healing affect. This includes having a shower or bath, or having a glass of water. Water also has a calming affect so taking a hot bath or shower will get your muscles nice and relaxed, while the ease of your mind will follow. Having a glass of water to drink is also rejuvenating to the body which will slow down your anxiety.

8. Go For a Walk

Walking gets you out of your head and connected to your physical body. If you are anxious this gives you the opportunity to release some of that energy by burning it off and putting it in motion. Anxiety after all is simply trapped energy, so going for a walk releases it by allowing you to clear your head space.

I hope that one or more of these techniques assist you with getting any anxiety under control. These techniques have been helping me over the years so much so that I have seen a decrease in usage.
