Getting things done when you are pressed for time can seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. What if I told you there is a creative way to get more things done in less time? Before we dive into getting more done in less time lets go over why it's important. Getting a lot done in less time helps you to prioritize what’s most important to you, do more of the things you love, and feel that sense of gratification. So, in this post we are going to look at five steps to getting more things done, and go into detail of what each step requires.
Make Space by Clearing Your Schedule
What this means is taking the opportunity to set time aside specifically for the goal you have in mind. It means creating space so that you have greater focus. You are also able to pour in more time and attention to the details of your goal or project when you create space by clearing your schedule. For example, you have a project due in three days and you realize you have not set any time aside to work on your project, the best way to approach this is cutting out 1.5 hours for a 3 hour project a day to get this done, so that on the third day you spend time finalizing details and important points.
Set a Time Limit
Similar to making space by clearing your schedule, you will want to manage your time by setting a time limit when getting more done in less time. If you set a time limit you are more likely to finish the task at hand. Take for instance, you have a task that you have been putting off for the past two weeks, but you decide to make a conscious effort to schedule a time during the day devoted to getting the task done. Setting a time limit means that you will most likely hold yourself accountable, this also puts a little added pressure on completion.
Prioritize Order of Importance
After you have set a time limit, it is now time to prioritize order of importance. This means figuring out the goals and tasks you want to accomplish, and putting them in order of most to least important. Let’s say you need to get three things done and you realize that one task is most pressed for time than the others, what you want to do is put the most important task on your to do list first, and schedule the second two based on their order of importance.
Delegate Tasks
After prioritizing, you can begin by delegating tasks. Take for example, you have time and space to complete two out of the three things on your to do list. The third task you may feel unsure of how to tackle or maybe you feel unenthused to get it done. What you can begin to do with your third task is hire a professional to assist you with getting your final task done, in this case you have handed it over to an expert, and spent more time focusing on what you are most enthused about.
Barter
The last and final step to getting more done in less time is to barter. What this looks like is trading tasks with someone that is an expert at the goal you wish to complete. For instance, you have a friend who runs a successful marketing firm and is great with social ads, and you just happen to be an expert with interior design. What you can do is exchange your time and interior design services for some social advertising advice or services.
I hope that you are able to use some of the ideas above to assist you with getting more done in less time.
