How God saved me from myself

If you've known me for several years, you might think that it would be hypocritical of me to talk about God and preach His words since I was a grave sinner.

I must admit, I was a worldly woman.

"Follow your heart" and "Speak your truth" were my mantra.

I've always thought that I could do it by myself if I just believed. But I was wrong -- and I am glad that I was.

Let's rewind a bit. About a year ago, I decided to leave my corporate job as a mechanical design engineer in a Fortune 500 company. At that time, I was full of excitement and hope thinking that leaving that job would make my life less miserable. I thought that leaving my 9-5 job was the thing that was blocking my breakthrough. Spoiler alert: It's not.

In my first few months of being unemployed and trying to be a full-time entrepreneur, I did a lot of things -- manifestation stuff, affirmation, hypnosis, etc. This was my very foundation. Well, I talked to God from time to time but it was very transactional lol like I only talked to God when I was asking something from Him. I know of God but I did not know God.

It was around September when I came across a video of Steve Harvey talking about how he succeeded in life starting from the ground up. His story really resonated with me because 1) he started from nothing, 2) he felt that he had a calling, 3) he quit his corporate job, and 4) his family did not believe in his calling. Having said that, my eyes and ears were glued to him because it seemed like he was talking about me.

In that video, Steve Harvey talked about the best book ever written and it was the footprint of every other self-help/personal development book --- the Bible. He said that he hadn't read all the books in the bible but he had put the scriptures in the book of Proverbs in his heart and that helped him to be where he's at now.

Hearing this testimony, I downloaded a bible app. I immediately read the book of Proverbs and oh girl, it slapped me real hard! It was calling me out. It called out how I was doing everything in my life wrongly. From my relationships with people, money, and even with God, I was heading south.

I developed a curiosity about God and followed some Christian influencers. As you see, I started a relationship with God because of my selfish reason --- to be successful in my career and be financially free.

Well, I suppose this was not a bad way of starting a relationship with Him, but as I got to know Him every day by reading the scriptures and knowing His son, our savior, Jesus Christ, I had a grasp of why I should grow my relationship with Him --- and it is because He loves me as I am.

I don't have to be the richest or the most successful man in the world in order for Him to love me. He already loves me as I am.

He loves me even at my weakest. And I am always and forever grateful that He has given His son Jesus Christ to die for our sins.

In search of wealth in this world, I have found TRUE WEALTH --- and that is the wealth given to us by God through His grace.

For His grace alone is sufficient ---sufficient to uphold you, sufficient to strengthen you, sufficient to comfort you, sufficient to make your trouble useful to you, sufficient to enable you to triumph over it, sufficient to bring you out of it, sufficient to bring you out of ten thousand like it, and most of all, sufficient to bring YOU home to heaven.

I know it may sound corny and somewhat cliche especially since it came from me, but that was also my reaction every time I read or hear a testimony about how God touches one's life.

But who knows, this piece of writing might plant a seed in your heart, and hopefully with the help of the Holy Spirit, it will grow and bear its fruits.
