Dr. Eliane Ceccon
Dr. Ceccon obtained her bachelor and master degrees inForest Sciences from the Universidade Federal do Paraná,Brazil and her PhD in Ecology from the Ecology Institute of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).She performed a research internship in the Botany Department of Cambridge University (UK) and spent a year in the Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (CATIE, in Spanish), in Costa Rica, where she specializedin agroforestry systems with a fellowship from the UnitedNations. She has 25 years of experience in researchand development of projects on conservation, ecosystemrestoration, forest production and agro-ecology for smallfarmers in different regions of Brazil and Latin America.Currently, Dr. Ceccon is a tenured researcher in the CentroRegional de Investigaciones Multidisciplinarias of UNAMand is a member of the National System of Researchers ofthe National Council of Science and Technology (CONACyT,in Spanish). She has published more than 70 peer reviewed scientific articles, book chapters and books
Daniel Roberto Pérez
Dr. Pérez obtained his bachelor degree from the UniversidadNacional de Río Cuarto and pursued three post-graduatestudies (Specialization, Master and PhD) on biodiversity,education and restoration in the Engineering Department ofthe Universidad Nacional del Comahue. He was a consultantin the United Nations Development Programme (PNUD) andcoordinator in a program with funds from the Global EnvironmentFacility (GEF) against desertification in Patagonia.He was also the national coordinator for the Ecological RestorationNetwork of Argentina and directs, since 2006, theRehabilitation and Restoration of Arid and Semiarid EcosystemsLab (LARREA, in Spanish), which gathers PhD studentsthat address ecological restoration questions.
Dr. Pérez has participated in publications that involved the descriptionof new species as well as restoration in arid regions. Likewise,he has published educational materials and books on ecological restoration based on environmental education. Currently, he is a professor in the Health and Environmental Science Department of the Universidad Nacional del Comahue and teaches courses for master and doctorate students inArgentina. http://www.grupolarrea.com
