Why I choose to be Plant-based?

Why would I become Plant-based, why would you? I came across Michael Gregor's work on YouTube and then read his book "How Not to Die" and how most modern diseases/illnesses can be reversed with diet and exercise.

I grew up eating without understanding what it was I was putting into my body. I ate hamburgers and drank milk weekly because that was what was portrayed to get big and strong. Little did I know the consequences and didn’t understand the suffering animals were put through so that I could eat a sandwich.. I realized that we don’t need meat to survive nor thrive! Not only did I do it for the animals and environment, but also for my own health and longevity.

How could you possibly gain life from a dead animal? After all, animals feel physical pain just like us, and while they can’t speak to us, it doesn’t mean we should disregard their life for common food. The lives of millions of animals and millions of gallons of water would be saved each year if our planet cut back/eliminated the consumption of meat and dairy. I instantly went plant based after watching the Netflix documentary called the Game Changers and reading into Dr. Michael Greger’s research on a whole food, plant-based lifestyle.

I thought it was normal to get sick 1-2 times a year with a cold, flu, fever, you name it. It’s your body telling you something isn’t right. We control what we eat, so I figured that was it. There are many plant-based, whole foods that help our immune system with proven clinical, double blinded studies in Dr. Michael Greger’s book, “How not to Die”(links of his research in his book). Some foods can increase white blood cell count to fight off infection/disease. The leading causes of death in the US are: Heart Disease, Diabetes, and Cancer. All of them can be prevented with diet and exercise. Whole grains, lentils, nuts, fruits, and vegetables provide us with all the nutrients we need like protein/carbs/fats along with vitamins to live a healthy life.
