About the Kimoja Initiative

Kimoja is a Swahili word that translates as “one” or “unified”. For The Kimoja Initiative, Kimoja refers to the concept that we are interconnected with others. We must learn and take collective action in ways that benefit our community while recognizing and celebrating our individuality. Our name reflects a deep belief in the power of collective purpose, cultural pride, and transformational leadership.


Education, of self and others, will serve as the transformational force that allows us to work towards an equitable and brighter future, kimoja (together as one). 


Jason and Tashawna aim to provide clients with several services, including life coaching and educational consultation. We strive to provide our clients with the necessary tools for continuous improvement in school leadership or life skills.


The Kimoja Initiative is not just a business name; it’s a philosophy. It means coming together with intention. It means honoring the past while designing the future. It means every voice matters, and every action leaves a legacy.

About Jason Rogers

Jason Rogers is a veteran educator, school leader, and leadership coach with nearly two decades of experience supporting students, teachers, and administrators across New York State. He is the co-founder of The Kimoja Initiative LLC, which he leads alongside his wife, Tashawna. Together, they launched Kimoja Educational Consulting and The Reset Within — two sister ventures that focus on school leadership development and personal transformation, respectively.


Jason brings both a deeply personal and professional lens to his work, rooted in his lived experience as a Black male educator navigating a field historically shaped by inequity. His leadership philosophy is grounded in a legacy-driven commitment to reflection, belonging, and collective growth.


Over the course of his career, Jason has served as a classroom teacher, Dean of Academics, Assistant Principal, Principal, and state-level education leader. Across every role, he has held fast to one guiding belief: transformative, lasting leadership begins with trust, clarity of purpose, and the courage to reflect deeply.
