The Autumn and the Fall season is perhaps my favorite season of all! As soon as the colors start to change, a cool breeze dances through the air, and it is time for pumpkins and sweaters my heart gets so happy! Fall has a magical—or should I say whimsical—feeling that always fills me with delight.
Today I want to share with you 12 dear, beautiful, and cozy autumn themed books I’m sure you and your little ones will love!
🍂 Fletcher and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson — This is perhaps my favorite picture book of all time! I still remember the first time I read this book as a child and reaching the final page and being in awe of the gorgeous artwork at the end. Even all these years later it still holds a bit of autumn magic for me.
🍂 Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak — A classic story of adventure, monsters, imagination, and a mother’s love shown with warm soup.
🍂 We’re Going On A Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury — I have read this book hundreds of times or rather one of my brothers would ask to be read this book hundreds of times growing up. I love the mix of black and white and full watercolor illustrations scattered through the story.
🍂 The Deer in the Wood: A Classic Picture Book About Sisters and Pa's Special Story for Kids by Laura Ingles Wilder & Renee Graef — I recently found out these Little House picture books existed and they are precious! I adore the illustrations and it is inspired by some of my favorite books.
🍂 County Fair: A Beloved Adaptation of Farmer Boy for Kids by Laura Ingles Wilder & Renee Graef — A county fair with pumpkins. What more can you ask for in a sweet autumn book?
🍂 Squirrel Nutkin by Beatrix Potter — Of all of Beatrix Potter’s delightful stories, this one screams autumn with the colors, fall leaves, acorns, and characters. It is a story of a naughty squirrel and well you will just have to read the story to see what happens to him.
🍂 Autumn Story (Brambly Hedge #3) by Jill Barklem — This is another one of those stories I didn’t find until I was older but love. The illustrations are the sweetest most cozy thing I have ever seen and the story is ever delightful! I think you and your little ones will love this story.
🍂 Cinderella by by Mahlon F. Craft and illustrated by Kinuko Y. Craft — This is one of the most stunning picture books I have ever beheld. I fell in love with the illustrations of this Cinderella as a child and was always disappointed when I couldn’t find it at the library. The colors are rich with golden yellow and orange hues with gorgeous ballroom scenes, dresses, and of course pumpkins.
🍂 Too Many Pumpkins by Linda White — The charming story of a woman who hates pumpkins but after a pumpkin truck drives by and a pumpkin rolled away and splatted onto her yard the strangest thing happened. Pumpkins started to grow…EVERYWHERE. Then she starts making the most scrumptious mouthwatering pumpkin treats and then…well you’ll just have to read and see.
🍂 The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming — a funny little story about a squirrel whose leaves are being stolen. Will he find the culprit or will more go his leaves be stolen?
🍂 The Fall Parade by Camelia Key and Allyn Howard — the paintings and illustrations in this picture book are absolutely gorgeous and so sweet! Perfect to read while hunting for fall leaves.
🍂 A Fall Day For Bear by Bonny Becker and Kady MacDonald Denton — I absolutely adore this whole series following the dear friends of Bear and Mouse! 10/10 recommend reading with your littles with fall! You can even do a watercolor study learning and coping the illustrations.
