Dear Reader,
With each year that passes, God becomes bigger to me. The more I learn about Him through the Bible, the more I want to know. Our God is so great! I realize there is so much I still do not know.
I read a story of a girl learning how to read. She loved learning, but the more she read, the more she realized she didn’t know things. Instead of her coming to an end of learning, she only scratched the surface. There is so much more to learn, so much more to seek, and so many more books to read.
I think God is a bit like this.
My youngest brother is 5 years old. He thinks he knows everything, including everything about Jesus. He is young and is just beginning his faith journey. (Really it is rather sweet seeing him so confident).
As a child I thought I knew everything.
Now that I am 20, I realize there is so much that I do not know. Even having read through the Bible from front to back multiple times, I am always learning something new. There is always something I never noticed before, something I need to know, something that reveals more about who God is.
Each time we read the Bible, it offers new meaning, insights, and wonder and shows us more about who God is. The Bible (and God) is like a deep well. We may never reach the full depth hidden within.
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
—John 4:13-14
We may never be able to fully comprehend all that God is without combusting from the sheer glory of our God. Moses asked to see God's glory. He saw only God's shadow, for it was said no man could see God and live. There are some things too great for our minds to truly understand.
It’s not a scary “I don’t know anything” kind of feeling. Rather, it is a “God, you are so marvelous beyond measure or words” sort of response.
It’s rather exciting.
I can spend my whole life learning about God and not come to an end. I may only scratch the surface of knowing who He is. What a treasure He is to behold! How deep He is! How marvelous is my God!
I find myself drawn to the quote said by Aslan (or rather Lewis).
“Aslan" said Lucy "you're bigger".
"That is because you are older, little one" answered he.
"Not because you are?"
"I am not. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger.”
Every year that I grow, the bigger and greater I find God becomes to me!
Another part I love about the book Prince Caspian is the boy king himself. I love how you got to meet this boy who is partnering with the Narnians and is fighting back for his stolen kingdom.
Perhaps my favorite moment is one where Aslan is asking Caspian if he is ready to be king over Narnia. Caspian says he doesn’t think he is. He has the humility to see he is a youth and does not know everything. Yet, this humble answer shows Aslan that he is ready.
“Welcome, Prince,” said Aslan. “Do you feel yourself sufficient to take up the Kingship of Narnia?”
“I—I don’t think I do, Sir,” said Caspian. “I’m only a kid.”
”Good,” said Aslan. “If you had felt yourself sufficient, it would have been a proof that you were not.”
It reminds me of the conversation Jeremiah had with God in the Bible.
Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.” But the Lord said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’;
for to all to whom I send you, you shall go,
and whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Do not be afraid of them,
for I am with you to deliver you,
declares the Lord.”
—Jeremiah 1:6-8
My favorite part of the movie, as well as the book, is when the trees come to life. It has always made me wonder if the trees in our world could come to life. If they sing praises to God, could they come to life in a time of need? Are they like sleeping giants towering up from the forest floor?
“For you shall go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and the hills before you
shall break forth into singing,
and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
—Isaiah 55:12
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
let the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy
before the Lord, for he comes,
for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness,
and the peoples in his faithfulness.
—Psalm 96:11-13
Looking out of my bedroom window, I see the forest that surrounds our home. It is rather effortless to imagine, especially on a windy day when the trees bend back and forth with their branches like hands swaying in the breeze.
Is this my imagination going wild and my storyteller brain making connections that are not possible? That is most probable, but my God can do the impossible. Nothing is too hard for Him. Besides, He made a donkey speak, so why couldn’t the trees come to life as well?
The battle spread over the face of all the country, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword.
—2 Samuel 18:8
If nothing else, you should read this book to enter once more into the land of Narnia and to see Aslan again.
Yours truly,
Moriyah

P.S.
The story includes battles and deaths, as well as a Roman god of wine who makes an appearance. I do not know exactly why a Roman god comes into the story to help the Narnians, but he is a part of the story. He is depicted as being drunk and throwing parties but does not promote a different faith.
On the whole, this is a marvelous story. I love how Lucy is the only one to see Aslan at first. We see Edmund's character progression from the first book in how he always believes Lucy now.
