The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis

How reading The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis changed my perspective on death and the end times and may even help you!

Dear Reader,

How do I begin to write this letter and share why I love The Last Battle so dearly? Of all the books in The Chronicles of Narnia, this one is my favorite. Actually, besides the Bible, this novel is my favorite book of all time.

There is so much I can share about this book. So much I learned. So much that touched my soul.

I shall tell you the reason why this is my favorite book.

Have you ever had a book you knew it wasn’t time for you to read? For some reason you need to wait a time before reading it. The timing isn’t right. Then one day it is.

Since I was a child, my favorite series has always been The Chronicles of Narnia. It might seem strange to know that I have never actually read the final book in my favorite series. For some reason I have never wanted to put an end to this story.

Then earlier this year I read The Last Battle, and it changed my life.

This may sound odd to say, but I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to go to heaven as much as I have since reading The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis.

I think I’ve always had a doom and gloom perspective on end times and about death itself. It always sounded scary. I felt I would rather live than die (truly, who doesn’t have this perspective?).

Reading this book has changed my perspective. I now long for heaven and walking with Jesus! So much it aches.

This book really was healing for me to read. It gave me a new perspective on heaven and the real reason why we should long to go.

It’s not about living forever.

It is about being with Jesus and never having to leave Him EVER.

We get to be in the presence of God.

We get to worship Him and see Him face-to-face.

We get to walk with him like before the fall.

WE GET TO GO HOME.

That is why I am homesick for heaven.

It isn’t really even homesick for heaven.

It’s Jesus.

I’m homesick for Him.

One day…either by the end of times or when our numbered days are finished…we will meet Jesus and see him face to face. We are going to meet him someday. Are you ready? Are you excited to see Jesus?

We can spend these last days…or weeks…or months…or years…or decades (however long the LORD has for us) to tell others about Him! Do the Great Commission—Jesus has called us to make disciples of the nations! Go tell the world about Him!

Let’s bring as many people as we can to meet Jesus with us!

“I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now...Come further up, come further in!”

― C.S. Lewis

P.S.

Aslan, is missing.

In his place, an impostor spreads treachery and lies across the land to deceive and control the Narnians. Trees (who are living) are cut down, talking horses (who are really more like you and me) are forced to be bridled and work, and other such things that are terrible happen in this book.

The imposter even says that Aslan is the same being as other false gods. He speaks many lies to try and deceive all mankind. He welcomes a great evil to destroy Narnia and its people—forever.

There is only one way to be saved and be with the Father. That is through Jesus. There is only one narrow road. All other roads and false “gods” lead to death and eternal destruction.

We need to follow Jesus! He is the way, the truth, and the life.

SPOILER: Many beloved characters die (but do not fear, for Aslan’s country is near). This is the “Revelation” of Narnia. It is the end of this world and the start of what is glorious and eternal in the next world. For the first time I saw the end of the world as being truly beautiful. It is beautiful because Aslan has won and you never have to leave him again. Jesus has won, and we get to spend eternity with Him!
