What's Your Relationship with Stress?

A Gentle Reflection for Stress Awareness Month

By Lavonne A. Weaver — Founder of Liv Vibrantly

Greetings and Blessings,

April is Stress Awareness Month, and I invite you to a different kind of conversation about stress.

This is not about avoiding it at all costs. This is not the hustle-hard, push-through, drink-more-water type of stress talk. It is a practical discussion—a heart-to-heart about your relationship with stress.

Let's Check-In:

Stress is going to show up.

→ Life happens.

→ People will test you.

→ Deadlines will chase you.

→ Your phone will ding at the worst possible time.

But what if we paused long enough to ask:

What is my relationship with stress?

Is stress:

  1. A constant companion I've learned to tolerate?
  2. Running the show in my mind, body, and routine?
  3. A guest I've let stay longer than I should have?

What I'm Learning...

Stress happens — yes.

But how I respond is where my power lives.

Stress may knock at the door.

But you get to decide:

→ If it stays.

→ How long it stays.

→ And whether or not I'm serving it tea and snacks.

Three Practical Ways To Respond Differently:

1. Journaling:

Writing clears what feels heavy. Your journal lets you tell the truth — without apology or judgment.

2. Walking: Not fast. Not fancy. Just moving your body to remind yourself: "I am allowed to move at a pace that feels good to me."

3. Paying Attention to Your Body: Stress leaves clues.

→ Tight shoulders

→ Shallow breath

→ Clenched jaw

Pause and ask: "What is this tension trying to tell me?"

Reflection Journal Prompts

What is your relationship with stress right now?

→ Am I avoiding it?

→ Am I over-managing it?

→ Am I ready to respond to it with more compassion?

Let your heart answer — not just your head.

Gentle Reminders

Stress happens.

But so does joy.

So does grace.

So does rest.

Let's make space for those things, too.
