Following Jesus has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
People who don’t believe don’t really see it — they assume faith is some easy comfort, a way to feel better about life. But it’s not. Once you’ve had even a small glimpse of how God sees the world, everything changes. You can’t unsee it.
You start craving that closeness to Him — that deep peace that can’t be found anywhere else. Once you’ve felt it, you long for it again and again. It’s a comfort no person, place, or thing can give.
But the truth is, it’s also lonely. The moment you start changing — stop doing what you used to do, stop being okay with things you once were — people notice. Some walk away. Some laugh. And some start throwing words like stones.
“Oh, let me guess, you’re born again now?”
“Didn’t you used to do this or that?”
Or the ones that cut the deepest:
“Is that what Jesus would do?”
“Aren’t you supposed to be Christian?”
They say those things not because you’re perfect, but because they want to remind you that you’re not. You’re trying to grow, and it makes some people uncomfortable.
You lose old friends and sometimes feel unworthy of the new ones. You’re constantly reminded of your past — even though God already forgot it. And when you start seeing the world through spiritual eyes, it can break your heart. Sometimes you just want it all to stop. You see so much pain and darkness that you wonder how much longer this world can go on.
But then, God speaks.
Not in a loud voice, but in a quiet reminder: “They still need Me.”
And you feel that tug again — that pull to keep going, to love when it’s hard, to forgive when you don’t want to.
You want to tell people about Him, but you also know it’ll bring more ridicule. Still, every once in a while, you help someone. You see a small change in someone’s heart. And that makes it all worth it.
Sometimes God gives a small reward to keep you going — a moment, a word, a song.
For me, it’s usually “Show Me Your Glory” by Third Day. That song pulls me through the noise and reminds me what this is all about.
Following Jesus isn’t easy. It’s a daily surrender — a battle between who you were, who you are, and who He’s shaping you to be. You’ll be misunderstood, criticized, and tested. But it’s real. And it’s worth it. Because when you walk with Him, even when you stumble, you never walk alone.
