My name is AJ Ross. As an artist I go by Bamidele Hotep, and as a teacher, I add the title Sebau, which means teacher and student. Bamidele is a word from the West African language and culture, Yoruba, which means, "follow me home." Hotep comes from the ancient Egyptian or Kemetic language, and it has several meanings. It can refer to an offer, the satisfaction of an offering, and in modern times it has been made synonymous with peace; either as a greeting or parting blessing. So Bamidele Hotep can mean, "follow me home to peace" or it can be understood as an offering to "follow me home".

When I first discovered and chose the name Bamidele for myself (mid 2017), prior to adding Hotep, I was deep into my spiritual journey, and was convinced through the experiences and the understandings that I had at the time, that I found the peace that I was looking for within myself. This became my "home", and after taking a break from pursuing and creating music, I was feeling inspired to get back into it; to guide people back to the peace within.

It wasn't until I began practicing and teaching Kemetic Yoga back in 2020 that I started to contemplate taking on a Kemetic name. I decided back in 2022 to add Hotep to Bamidele, and Bamidele Hotep was born. Sebau was added not to long after to the beginning of my name as a title that I feel very strongly about. I recognize that even though I carry the title of a teacher, I am also still very much a student. If knowledge is infinite, then I will always be a student.

I have been teaching Kemetic Yoga primarily since October 2020, but I also practice and teach Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Pranayama, Mindfulness meditation, Yoga Nidra, and am currently enrolled in a 300 hr online Yoga Teacher Training; where I am learning so much more on the way to earning the title of 500 hr RYT.

My passion for teaching is born from the healing and transformation I have witnessed and am currently experiencing from consistent commitment to my choosen spiritual practices and discipline.

My hope is that I can guide others towards their own experiences of continual healing and transformation, and that that will have a ripple effect; touching our close circles, our larger communities, our world, and the worlds beyond.
