Poppy Rose Sloan

Poppy Sloan is a queer poet, theatre maker, performer, consent educator, youth worker and the founder of 'Inside Voices', an inclusive open mic poetry event in Northcote, Melbourne.

She performed her one-woman show, a spoken word psycho-drama comedy called 'WILD-HER-NESS', as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival 2018 and Perth Fringe World 2019. The show explored transitions between teenagehood and adult hood through a queer lens traversing modern themes of consent, contraception, pleasure, #metoo, and sexual expression.

"In WILD-HER-NESS! Sloan promises a new generation of poet... The stories in question are at once extremely personal and familiar... she uses that vulnerability to its fullest extent, levelling the audience with hard-earned wisdom." - Isolated Nation, Theatre Review 2019

She has worked across various community roles both in creative space and advocacy, and has lived experience in neurodiversity, mental health, and living with a chronic pain condition.

Poppy is a freelance writer for the online platform, Channel Void, and is also a co-host of their podcast, 'Only Loving Sex'. She has been published in various works such as; 'Eat if You're Hungry' and 'Growl House'.

She is particularly invested in gender, inclusion, and diversity issues and social justice at a local level.
