Author's Note
My books are my legacy to my children. They won’t grow up in the San Francisco Bay Area as I did, surrounded by a vibrant Chinese community. Without that cultural connection, I worry our family could lose this part of our heritage in a single generation.
In many ways, my children are visitors to Chinese culture, just like my readers. At its heart, Chinese culture is about family and community. My characters—Raina Sun, Lucy Fong, and the families of Cedar Woods—embody these values in every chapter.
