About Me
Stan iB (Stanislav Borisov) – Pianist & Composer
Born on July 1, 1976, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Stan iB (Stanislav Borisov) began studying piano at the age of six. Immersed early in classical music, he was equally shaped by the rich traditions of Bulgarian folk music, particularly during his studies at the prestigious Filip Koutev National School of Folk Arts.
In the late 1990s, while living in Greece, Stan iB discovered a passion for jazz, captivated by the music of Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, and Herbie Hancock. This newfound interest in jazz and improvisation led him to the Netherlands, where he pursued formal studies and honed his voice as a contemporary jazz artist.
Stan iB released his debut solo piano album, Exploration, in January 2017, featuring original compositions that introduced his personal and lyrical approach to the piano. That same year, in December, he followed up with Influences, and in January 2019, he released Introspection, further establishing his introspective and emotionally nuanced style.
On January 6, 2020, he introduced the Stan iB Trio with the album Confluences. The trio focuses on original compositions that blend contemporary jazz with diverse influences—particularly the rhythms and melodies of the Balkans—resulting in a fresh, open, and genre-fluid sound.
Stan iB has continued to explore and expand his musical language with a series of solo piano albums: Dedication, Reflections, Stan iB – 2022, Stan iB – 2023, and Just the Two of Us (2024). His music is characterized by a deep emotional resonance, a strong melodic sensibility, and a commitment to bridging tradition and innovation.
