Stuart Ryan Music

Stuart Ryan has become established as one of the UK’s leading guitarists and composers. In 2002 he was named as Guitarist Magazine’s ‘Acoustic Guitarist of the Year’ and quickly built up a busy touring schedule with invitations to appear at every major UK guitar festival, solo performances at arts centres throughout the UK and appearances at prestigious venues including London’s Purcell Room (Royal Festival Hall) and The Sage in Gateshead. Concert work in Europe followed with gigs and masterclasses in Italy, Ireland and Austria fitting in around his domestic schedule. From 2004 Stuart has been the acoustic guitar columnist for Guitar Techniques magazine gaining thousands of fans worldwide thanks to his monthly recordings and tutorials. His debut CD ‘The Coast Road’ was described as “A beautiful collection of fingerstyle pieces” by Acoustic Magazine whilst the same publication described ‘The Tradition’, his most recent book/CD of guitar pieces, as “Essential.” His original compositions are included in both the London College of Music and Rockschool exam syllabuses and are studied by students of the guitar across the globe. He also contributes to Guitarist Presents: Acoustic magazine and Germany’s Akustik Gitarre. His presence extends beyond the specialist press though – he has performed and discussed the role of the guitar many times on BBC radio and was invited to create a special guitar supplement for The Observer, one of the UK’s biggest newspapers with a reach in excess of half a million. His instructional DVDs on fingerstyle guitar have sold over 80,000 copies worldwide. Stuart’s live performances feature a diverse array of genres and techniques from traditional Irish to Delta Blues and even African influenced guitar. His solo show, “Guitar Stories”, takes the listener on an eclectic journey combining virtuoso technique with melody and humour. However, this is not just a show for guitarists – his arrangements of well known pieces by The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and others find favour amongst guitarists and those who just love music alike. Although known as a fingerstyle concert guitarist he is also active as a studio session musician on both electric and acoustic guitar. He has worked on projects with legendary Genesis/Deep Purple producer Nick Davies and recently supplied guitars for Camilla Kerslake, an artist on Gary Barlow’s Future Records Label. He also regularly composes library and exam music for a number of publishing houses.
