Hello and welcome to my very first blog!
How did I get into the ancient art of taijiquan - or tai chi chuan?
I don't recall how I first heard about it, because nobdy else I knew did it or had heard about it. I must have seen it somewhere though? I remember asking around in book shops and holistic fairs if they had any info or book about Hai Chi. It was only when a flyer came through my letter box advertising adult education classes for a 10 week Tai Chi course that I finally found my first class in 1993. It was one of those things that I knew nothing about it, but totally knew that I would love it! And I did. Everybody was so nice and the Teacher Michael Low was so calm and helpful. It was so different from anything else and sort of explained everything about 'life'. For me it was a real mental balancer - lifting me if I was a little down and calming me if I was stressed. It was my weekly magic place to go and I used to love getting handouts that Michael called 'Chinese takeaways' and there was 'story-time' after a mid session tea break in the 2 hour class where the theory of tai chi was taught, or just nice thought provoking readings.
I felt Tai Chi somehow connected my mind and body and allowed a pace to just be. It was fascinating.
It is so rewarding now to hear how other people have benefitted as I did almost 30 years ago!
I would love to hear from others how Tai Chi has helped and I will continue my story here and add some testimonials from my students too.
